New game variant! Stay on the road!

Of course you may get bumped off or miss a turn here and there, but do your best to stay on the road and get back to it ASAP. No intentionally veering offroad to avoid damage. Just take it like a truck.

So far my top score is

Level: 13
Time Survived: 3:16
Enemies Slain:  270

New personal best for staying on the road.

Level: 29
Time Survived: 6:21
Enemies Slain:  910

Another idea would be to have the aim of travelling as far as possible along a set road. That would gel well with the truck theme.

There's so much potential for this demo! I'd love to try out building a 3d environment with ramps, hills, hot dog carts to smash into, and other obstacles. Just the power up design space has plenty of room for growth, as does the variety of enemy vehicles you could encounter, especially if you start designing enemy types with abilities in mind and vice versa.

really good, I even donated a bit, not much, I'm poor xd.  I would definately play this on my phone if I could. I would change something tho: like bullet time right after leveling up so you don't crash into other car by accident, make it so certain perks don't appear at the same time, because  several times I was losing when I level up and I got the worst selection of perks to choose from and I didn't a way to skip it.

you should make it so when you level up all the enemies respawn

I really enjoy the inverted controls when traveling the other way but I do find it a bit tricky when you're put right back in the action after making a selection. Real fun little game and after thinking about it some more, it's actually kind of fun seeing when our fate's been sealed.

But perhaps you can add something in the settings where we can increase delay even if it's a split second. Moving my hand from my mouse onto my keys with great speed, I sometimes situate them on ESDF and wonder what happened to my accelerator pedal.

I might be overlooking something but I assume most people would play with their left hand and then control the mouse with their right? Unless you are only able to play with one hand, then this game would be harder. Maybe if he added hotkeys for upgrades (e.g. 1,2,3) for the respective upgrades.

I mentioned this in my post some days ago: Most racing game players play with both hands on keyboard - e.g. left hand accelerating and braking, right hand (usually arrow keys) for steering.

Gotta say the progression is not linear for anyone wondering why they cant get big scores. (not dumping on the game, love it. just letting people know

been constantly getting up to lvl 15-20 (when i get drops that i like)

to get the below result i just had to pass approximately lvl 30 or so and then when you have plenty of 2-3 powerups to make you strong on one front you can push through the enemies like a hot knife in butter.

for me this was the rear bluster getting bossted 5 times by 30% and a strong magnet so i can absorb xp while driving infront of the enemies and after that i got lots of 20% faster lvl-up. with that you get many lifes that you start using as a weapon to get out of everyone, clear the entire map for a life (1/10 is nothing) and every now and then you trade enemy hp with their spawn time and or 40 taxis.

worst ones to get for me -faster speed of car (reason i actually lost.. couldnt maneuver, was going through enemies at the end) and other weapon types when you have upgraded yours so much...

i would actually prefer the option to pass some times (plenty of times in the game below... maybe close to 10 times!)

Good game. The volume options don't seem to work when you try to turn off the sounds.

Great prototype, really fun. 90 % of the time I play racing games; but recently I was addicted to "20 minutes till dawn". Hehe, ... a survival game with cars - I love it :)

The only thing that bugged me a bit was the selection of the perks via mouse. From experience I know that most racing game players use both hands for driving -- usually left hand for accellerating/braking and right hand for steering. Ever so often I lost a heart after I had selected a perk because I was not quick enough to get my fingers back on the arrow keys. Maybe it would be good to have a one second pause after the perks menu closes.

I would suggest that weapons like sword get it damage related to the car velocity, anyway great prototype the car feels fun to drive around, sometimes i forget about enemies and start drifting around like im the only car in the field..

That's a super cool prototype! Did I notice sword doing a rotation? Is it intentional?
So far 1 prototype in and it's really cool! So much room to expand! If you manage to get it optimized for mobile you'll be killing it!

I've found a new strategy...

I was just about to show off my level 67 highscore. How did you level up so quick?

I took the Cursed XP perk every chance I got (Level up 20% faster, but all enemies have 20% more health).

I've also discovered a minor exploit. It seems that something funny is going on with how gold drop is calculated. It looks like the amount of gold is calculated  by X amount per car when a shot kills the killing blow. Normally this works fine, but the blunderbuss can deliver several killing blows effectively at once causing a vehicle to drop its reward gold multiple times from a single fire of the blunderbuss. I'm not 100% sure that's what's happening, but it seems to be the case. You have to play somewhat risky to take advantage of this exploit by letting the incoming vehicle get super close.

The main thing that was letting me level up so fast was the Cursed XP though.

I have gotten 5 of my friends addicted to this game, would 100% buy on steam.

This is a really addicting game and could do well as a mobile game with just a button to watch adds and respawn after death

The famous YT algorithm does something good every now and then - it recommended me your video, good stuff kind sir! Can't wait for an episode to include "heatwave warnings" we've been recently receiving in south east QLD (in the "the world is collapsing" section of your videos) ;)

also the game is good

what does the code do

(+1)

This game is so much fuuuun! I am also kinda addicted to VS-esque games so thanks for enabling that constant itch(io ....lol).

I'm getting "Unable to parse Build/SirTruck_Aug18.framework.js.gz! This can happen if build compression was enabled but web server hosting the content was misconfigured to not serve the file with HTTP Response Header "Content-Encoding: gzip" present. Check browser Console and Devtools Network tab to debug." when trying to launch, is that just me?

Ah it's when you try running it through the itch ap

Getting this too, any fix?

Yeah, open the page in a browser, doesn’t seem to work in Brave though so chrome or edge is recommended

When I need a break to unwind, I type "luke" into the url bar and let it autocomplete to this. I guess I've been needing a lot of breaks recently...

Thank you Luke for making this.

A lot of fun! Something that would be nice would be to be able to select the perk using the keyboard.

saw your game on Ask Gamedev, great work!!

keep up the good work

I watched your dev log on YouTube and decided to try the game out. Didn't expect it to be so addicting! Couldn't stop until I had all six achievements. Great job!

So much unexplored design space, yet the core is already tons of fun. Hopefully you get the opportunity to come back and turn this into a full game! Although I know if you don't that means you've got something even better on your hands, which is even more exciting!!

awesome game! but the back up steering is reversed

10/10 would spend ages driving backwards blunderbussin' out my arse again :D

Terrificly addictive!
I wish it had controller support :D

great game but what is the secret code?

its in their youtube vid

pretend I'm lazy and just tell it to me :)

Well, I've been hooked on these types of games for a few weeks now and this is a very promising start. I can see wasting many hours on a fully fleshed out version.

Really fun iteration on the VS formula, nicely done!

Brilliant work Luke. Great fun to play.

Nice game!

Extremely fun mix between Crash club and Vampire survivor!

I find it a bit weird that crashing into other cars damage me but not the enemy, and I wished the sword was a bit more like the mace, with some physics!

I found myself trying to swing the sword, but it felt a bit rigid

Other than this I found the game extremely fun! A bit too hard, but it has a lot of potential 😊

Brilliant job! Very fun :D

Amazing and addicting!

(1 edit) (+1)

This is amazing. The "fun" part of this game, as well as the ease is brilliant. Pick up and play!

ps: Sir truck needs a glorious moutsache

This is super fun!  I do a little better every time, and want to try out different weapon / perk combinations, which is definitely a good sign!  I wish my car had an e-brake or other ability to give me a bit more movement options.

Love it! You've got a potential hit on your hands!  :-)

Good work, Luke! Looking forward to more! This is a very fun start to a game.
